This year, Day for Change focuses on Uganda, where UNICEF use sport and play to improve children’s health and reach vulnerable children often excluded from society or discriminated against – orphans, children with disabilities, former child soldiers, child refugees and children left homeless by conflict.

Our Own Clothes Day will be held on Friday 3 February. We will be making a collection at the start of the day and asking that each child donates £1 in exchange for wearing their own clothes.

We are not insisting on a donation from each child but we hope that between us we can raise enough money to make a difference to the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.

SRE is a compulsory part of our Personal, Social and Health Education Curriculum taught throughout the school. To support the work in class children will be watching video materials from Channel 4’s ‘Living and Growing’ series. If you would like to view any of these video programmes they are available to borrow from the Reception Desk. A copy of the SRE policy is also available there for you to read.

A leaflet ‘SRE and Parents’ was also handed out which gives further information about the content of SRE and your rights as a parent / carer. Parents can withdraw their child from the parts of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) which fall outside the national Curriculum. Any parent wishing to withdraw their child should discuss this with the class teacher in the first instance and then in writing to the Headteacher by Friday 20 January.

An appointment between the Headteacher and parent will be made to discuss the withdrawal. If after this meeting the parent still wishes the child to be withdrawn, the child will be provided with related work and sent to an alternative class when SRE is being taught.

If you would like further advice or information, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher. If you would like another copy of the letter that was sent out to your child’s year group, or a copy of the leaflet, please ask in the school office.
